Sho Shibuya

Born in 1984, Sho Shibuya is a Japanese artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Known for his series, The Sunrise from a Small Window, Shibuya’s work explores painting as a daily ritual, examining perceptions of time and meditating on the presence of each passing day. What began as a personal reflection evolved into a visual and emotional commentary on the political and environmental landscape depicted on the front pages of the New York Times. This ongoing project has become a visual record, capturing the luminescence of the sun and sky contrasted with the confronting news cycle that marks each day. In 2022, Shibuya's work was featured at Art Basel Miami in collaboration with Saint Laurent, where the artist's exploration of the intersection between art, fashion, and daily life was brought to the forefront.
