The gallery is pleased to present the eighth installment of “Present”, a series of guest-curated exhibitions in the Project Space. 

French artist Elvire Bonduelle, explores simplicity and perspective in six minimally stroked rotating paintings and a wall drawing titled LOVE JOY. In their subtlety, the paintings exude an energy and intuition characteristic of her work.

"After Paris @ onestar press and Laurent Muller Gallery; Miami @ Untitled Art Fair; New York @ OSMOS; London @ Ronchini Gallery and now back in New York @ the gallery, Elvire Bonduelle has been rotating her paintings. In the same fashion that Piero Manzoni reversed the position of our planet by building an actual cubic bronze base upon which the earth now stands (Base of the World, 1961), Bonduelle wants her paintings to be rotated - with the help of viewers turning her paintings 90° each time - to make us aware that our sense of equilibrium and beauty depends entirely upon our cultural and physical position. Elvire Bonduelle’s Rotating Paintings are simple strokes of acrylic upon unprepared stretched canvases, elegantly applied with a large brush. They become surrogates of paintings, recalling the bygone days, when artists were painting on canvases with a good reason to do so. The artist has a great sense of color. Here, the painting itself is not the subject but rather the way we look and experience it. The project space is adorned with a  grid of words, a wink to Sol Lewitt’s wall drawings with a positive energy much needed in early 2017: LOVE JOY.”

Born in 1981 in Paris, Elvire Bonduelle studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in Richard Deacon’s studios and graduated in 2005. Mainly based in Paris, her works have been exhibited in France and abroad. Selected solo exhibitions include: Osmos Gallery, New York, (2016); Galerie Van Gelder, Amsterdam (2015); Galerie Laurent Mueller, Paris (2015); Galerie Sabrina Amrani, Madrid (2011) and Centre Culturel Français, Lomé, Togo (2009). Selected group exhibitions include: New Archive at LACA, Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, Los Angeles, CA (2014); To the Moon via the Beach, conceived by Philippe Parreno and Liam Gillick, and curated by Tom Eccles, Liam Gillick, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Philippe Parreno and Beatrix Ruf, the Amphitheatre, Arles, France (2012).

Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia are co-founders and managers of onestar press and Three Star Books, two distinguished book presses dedicated to the publication of books and multiples by artists. The overall production of onestar press includes more than 300 books, 300 multiples and artists’ films since 2000. The space and freedom given to artists, the flexibility in the realization of their concepts, the access to and use of new technologies have allowed onestar press to collaborate with international artists on a variety of projects.
